Moving from Ubercart to Commerce

I've just installed Commerce Kickstart on http://store.codeontheroad.com.au/ in order to evaluate the effort of moving another site (http://www.winesalesaustralia.com) over to the new platform. There are some great ideas in there, everything is driven by views and the full power of fieldable entities is exposed. I especially liked how the product or inventory is separated from the product display or catalogue.

Initial thoughts are that Commerce is not quite ready for production, but I'm not sure if that is more a case of the documentation not being up to date with the changes and I haven't discovered all the functionality (an example would be that shipping needs to be installed as a separate module it seems, even with the kickstart being used) or whether there is function that is genuinely missing.
